Our method
How we verify
Every pet-policy detail on BoopTravel says two things: where it came from, and when we last checked it. Here is exactly how that works.
From the property’s website, checked 21 Oct 2026
Read from the property’s own site, tied to the exact sentence.
Confirmed by the property, 21 Oct 2026
Confirmed by the property itself, through a one-time link.
Where listings come from
We start from open place data (see data sources) for hotels, motels, inns, B&Bs, cabins, campgrounds and RV parks in British Columbia, Washington, Oregon and California. A place only appears on BoopTravel once its own website says it accepts dogs.
We read the property’s own website
Our reader, BoopTravelBot, visits the property’s homepage and a few of its pet or policy pages. It follows robots.txt and makes one request per second per site. We keep only the paragraphs about pets. Fixed rules, not guesswork, pick out the details: pet fee, fee cap, deposit, how many pets, weight limit, breed rules, pet-only rooms and whether pets can be left alone.
Every value is tied to the exact sentence
A detail is published only when both of these hold:
- The sentence it came from appears, word for word, in the page we saved.
- Every number in the value appears in that sentence. A $25 fee has to come from a sentence that says 25.
If a property’s pages disagree with each other, we publish nothing for that detail. On any listing you can open “Show the exact words” to read the sentence, and follow the link to the page it came from.
Dated, and re-checked every week
Each value shows the day we last checked it. We re-read every listed property’s pages every week. When a value changes, the old one moves to the listing’s “Earlier values”, with its dates.
Confirmed by the property
We email properties a one-time link, sent only to the address we already hold for them. Through it they can confirm what we show or correct it. Their answers read “Confirmed by the property”, with the date, and confirmed listings rank first.
- We don’t accept payment for “confirmed” status. It can’t be bought.
- The “Are you the owner or manager?” button on a listing emails the address we already have. It never sends a link to an address someone types in.
- We ask confirmed properties again after 6 months.
How listings are ordered
In every town, stays confirmed by the property come first, then the stays that state the most details. Affiliate commissions never change the order.
What we don’t do
- We don’t guess. If a website doesn’t state a detail, the listing says “Not stated”.
- We don’t guarantee anything. Properties change their rules and make exceptions. Use our details to shortlist, then check with the property when you book, and make sure your dog is on the reservation.
